Tasting Notes
Romaric Chavy took over the estate in 2014, making him the eighth generation to make wine in his family. Romaric learned from his father, Hubert Chavy, who founded the winery. Chavy-Chouet is one of the oldest families in Puligny-Montrachet. The Ropiteau family (on his mother's side) is the oldest one in Meursault.
This is a wine that truly evolves over time. The Chardonnay in the bottle is delicate and well balanced, blending hints of hazelnut, blossom, ripe apples, vanilla and delectable citrus fruits. Upon bottling, this is an appealing but discrete concoction. This 2018 vintage, however, has aged to perfection, adding a spicy potency to the finesse and aftertaste that makes it truly memorable. Like all Chardonnay, this is a drier taste experience with an oaky aftertaste, but it lives long on the palate and remains irresistibly tempting once the cork has ben popped. In many respects, the moniker says it all - Les Charmes is effortlessly charming.
