Scharzhofberg is one of the most famous vineyard sites in Germany
A steely bite of acidity and minerality give it a racy, kinetic feel under fresh green apple and lime notes.
The well seasoned barrels are kept in deep, very cold, damp cellars, originally constructed by mediaeval monks, which offer the perfect environment to gently age the wines.

Tasting Notes

Egon Muller is one of the Rhineland's most distinguished winemakers and retains access to the finest vineyards. Many of these sites were established by the Romans and are grown to rootstock which can be traced back centuries. All Egon Muller's editions are Riesling, the family's experience with the varietal dates back to the discovery of Auslese itself. The style is made without any compromise from small parcels of the finest fruit, as harvests of suitably high quality become available. Grapes are hand picked off the ripest bunches, very late in the season from late November until early December. The wines are fermented to wild indigenous yeasts and matured in thousand litres oak foudres. The aim is to craft the finest example of traditionally hand made Auslese. The well seasoned barrels are kept in deep, very cold, damp cellars, originally constructed by mediaeval monks, which offer the perfect environment to gently age the wines. Pale gold hue. White fruit aromas and floral bouquet, citrus, peaches and pear. A rich palate with bright citrus acid balancing the sweetness of fruit flavours. The wine displays stony minerality, hints of acacia and lilac, grilled exotic fruit, sweet stone fruits and bracing acidity all combined in perfect harmony.
