Founded in 1948 by François Raveneau, the estate’s dedication to excellence has been upheld by his sons, Jean-Marie and Bernard, and now by the third generation, ensuring consistency and refinement in every vintage.
The Montée de Tonnerre vineyard is considered the most prestigious of Chablis’ 1er Cru sites, often compared to Grand Cru vineyards for its unique south-facing slopes and Kimmeridgian limestone soils, which impart exceptional minerality and complexity.
The 2022 Montée de Tonnerre exhibits all the hallmarks of Raveneau’s style, with bright citrus notes, crisp acidity, and a distinctive saline quality. This wine is known for its aging potential, evolving over time to reveal even greater complexity.

"Perhaps surprisingly, there is no separate Chapelot in 2022. A full lemon colour, with a nose which is much more backward. The fruit is very evenly balanced across the palate, arriving in little waves, with a vast aftertaste. Very classical, all the constituent parts together. Drink from 2027-2036. - 93-95 Points."

Tasting Notes

The 2022 Domaine François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre showcases the estate’s reputation as Chablis’ gold standard. Sourced from the prestigious Montée de Tonnerre vineyard, often likened to a Grand Cru, the wine benefits from Kimmeridgian limestone soils and ideal south-facing slopes. The third generation of the Raveneau family continues the legacy of meticulous winemaking, focusing on precise vineyard care and neutral oak aging. The 2022 vintage is a refined expression, with bright citrus notes, crisp acidity, and a distinctive saline edge, offering excellent aging potential for collectors.
