It’s a gorgeous, fine, floral and citrus-noted white Burgundy. Tonic in every sense of that word; as good as any Côte de Beaune 1er cru.

"The 2022 Mâcon-Pierreclos 1er Jus de Chavigne is a brilliant young wine in the making, unfurling in the glass with aromas of citrus zest, white flowers and crisp stone fruit, thrown into relief by subtly exotic top notes. Medium to full-bodied, racy and tensile, it's concentrated and incisive, concluding with a chalky, almost electric finish. Chavigne always over-performs in warm vintages, and 2022 is no exception."

Tasting Notes

As the name suggests, this wine is crafted from only the first press juice (characterised by its lower pH and purity) from Guffens’s iconic Le Chavigne vineyard. Put simply, Le Chavigne is the finest and most famous parcel of Mâcon-Pierreclos, where other lieux-dits include Margots, Le Château, Les Grands Buys and La Bucherate. The old vines for this cuvée are planted on a particularly steep, stony section of the vineyard at a density of 11,000 per hectare. In a good year, they yield 300 to 400 grams of fruit per vine (just six to eight bunches). It’s a gorgeous, fine, floral and citrus-noted white Burgundy. Tonic in every sense of that word; as good as any Côte de Beaune 1er cru.
