95 / 100"Block 6 being 1975 plantings of the Gin Gin clone. I think we will be in for something of a treat with 2023 Margaret River Chardonnay. This is fine-boned, but delivers flavour. I’m thinking white peach, a little lime and apple/pear, nutmeg and cinnamon, with a cooling basil perfume. It has some gloss and glide, but also has a gentle flinty grip, a little bit nutty and saline, with a long cool finish of excellent length. It’s all just so. Pure and effortless. It glides. Tasting Notes
Mineral aromatics with background savoury flinty notes. The fruit is in the fresh white pear spectrum with perhaps some citric elements. The palate is vibrant and light. The old vine depth of fruit provides a complexity not seen in most Chardonnay - there is always more to find in the wine without it being overworked or over-blown. This is a beautiful wine with depth of flavour and texture that will stand up in a fine dining situation.
Planted in 1975 with the Gin Gin (Mendoza) clone of Chardonnay, Block 6 features a steep south-facing slope, reducing sunlight exposure and creating a cool microclimate perfect for high-quality Chardonnay production. These dry-farmed vines yield small quantities of fruit with a distinctive, restrained minerality.
