92 / 100"(2023 Vintage) Squeaky, refreshing, textural white of levity, general purity, gentle savoury and herbal bent. I’m in. Lots of fennel and anise amongst pithy grapefruit, red apple, radish and nectarine. It feels quite zingy and tangy, maybe even grassy, but good for it with all the textural nuance and general refreshment factor going on. Very fruity, but with savoury elements of that fruit on hand."

"(2023 Vintage) It’s painted in shades of green and yellow. Citrus, lemongrass, jasmine, Nashi pear, raw almond, parsley root, ground cucumber. Refreshing is its second name. Briny-chalky juice with a long flavour tail of yellow grapefruit, river stones and white pepper bite. Light and acidic and with an interesting sour-umami structure. I must add, SB stands tallest here. Lovely, graceful drop."

Tasting Notes
Vignerons Schmolzer and Brown Pret A Blanc is a dry white wine from the King Valley region of Victoria, Australia. It is a blend of four grape varieties: Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, and Sylvaner.
This wine sees us continue our exploration of the Gemischter Satz style of dry, refreshing white blends originally grown and made around Vienna in Austria. The Austrian style typically contains as many as ten or eleven varieties as a field blend, which is intended to mitigate viticultural risk. This little cool breeze boasts a mere four: Pinot gris, Sauvignon blanc, Sylvaner and Riesling and is from several upper King Valley sites. However insofar as it’s utterly refreshing, crisp and brightly fruited, we hope we’ve respected the traditional style admirably. We hope also that you’ll find yourself with a chilled bottle of this and a bucket of prawns to peel on a sunny weekend day very soon.
It’s a clean slosh of green apple, pod peas, soft florals and grassy herbage, with a zingy and crisp palate.
