92 / 100"The Dugat-Py 2006 Gevrey-Chambertin Coeur Du Roi captures this bottling's typically mysteriously marine, saline, iodine-laced, shrimp shell reduction-like mineral streak, along with its typical sweetness of diverse black fruits (here raspberry and cherry). The fine grain of the tannins permits a luscious sense of fluidity and seductively soothing, satiny texture, while notes of cocoa powder and darkly roasted coffee reinforce the sense of sweetness. As usual, this represents a striking though equally palate-staining and (in its unique way) equally mineral contrast to the Les Evocelles. It should drink well for at least 10-12 years."

"Offers gorgeous aromas of red and black currant, flowers and spice. The flavors deliver more of the same, with a mineral element that turns to licorice and tobacco on the finish. There's terrific balance and intensity at this level. Best from 2010 through 2018. 100 cases imported."

"Interestingly given its exposition, this is notably ripe with an expressive cool red berry and pungently earthy nose that slides into rich, full and distinctly serious middle weight flavors that offer an appealingly textured mouth feel on the velvety and slightly floral finish that is admirably persistent. This too delivers outstanding quality for its level."

"Good bright, dark red. Sexy aromas of black fruits, spicy oak, violet and licorice. Juicy and vibrant, with impressive energy and definition to the flavors of blackberry, violet and spice. Finishes spicy and long, with firm, building tannins. At the village level the stems were riper in 2006 than in 2007, noted Dugat, who vinified with a higher percentage of the stems in '06"

Tasting Notes
Among the ten hectares of Premiers and Grand Crus this domain has, the cuvée "Coeur de Roy" comes from one superb plot of Gevrey-Chambertin Village appellation. It is produced from ancient vines (up to 97 years old). This is a wine highly appreciated by connoisseurs for its intense blackcurrant bouquet with notes of game and liquorice. Strong, yet beautifully supple they can be aged for up to 20 years.
A true genius when it comes to vinification, Bernard Dugat acquired his first parcel in 1973, when he was only 15! Gradually, the domain grew through successive purchases of grand crus, mostly in Charmes-Chambertin and Mazis-Chambertin, but also in the village and regional appellations. The wines truly reflect the Gevrey terroir. Above all, the aim is to allow the terroir to express itself. Yields are limited in order to maximise concentration; a traditional and careful maturing in barrels (between 50 to 100% new oak) is carried out for 14 to 18 months.
