Tasting Notes
“More prominent smoky mineral reduction wisps are present on the more elegant aromas of acacia blossom, iodine and shellfish. There is outstanding size, weight and richness to the large-scaled flavours that coat the palate with sappy dry extract while a pronounced stoniness becomes apparent on the compact, built-to-age and beautifully long finish. This too is very good and should have no trouble repaying a decade or so of cellaring.” 92-95 points – Burghound
*The change in name from the Grand Cru ‘Les Clos’ to Grand Cru ‘Hommage à Louis’ continues into the 2022 vintage as Benoît’s case has not been resolved. This comes about because of an administrative discrepancy. French customs claim that this parcel is part Les Clos and part Valmur, which is at odds with the INAO, the appellation authority, which has declared it Les Clos since 1938. Apparently, it will take a little time to resolve the dispute, but in the meantime Benoît refuses to split the parcel and so to appease customs, has instead renamed it after Louis Droin, who planted the disputed parcel in 1920. Classic French bureaucracy gone mad!
