96 / 100"The nose is aromatic, concentrated, intense and nicely elegant. It reveals notes of blackberry, flowers (lilac, violet), cassis and slight notes of small wild fruits associated with discreet hints of toasted oak, Sichuan pepper (very discreet) and sweet spices. The palate is fruity, sleek, well-balanced, aerial, suave and offers an acid frame, a slight juiciness, a beautiful finesse as well as a beautiful roundness. In the mouth this wine expresses notes of fleshy blackberry, juicy cassis and slight notes of black cherry associated with hints of crushed strawberry, raspberry, discreet hints of caramelized oak, dark chocolate as well as a discreet hint of cardamom, sweet spices and a very discreet hints of Bourbon vanilla. Tannins are fine, elegant and structuring. A great wine! Good persistence!"

"The Pichon Lalande 2008 is backward on the nose: tightly coiled blackberry, raspberry, cedar and mint: classic Pauillac fruit profile. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, very well knit, a little softer and more forward but very composed with a pure, velvety finish. This is a beautiful, filigree Pauillac that should repay extended cellaring"

"This displays real elegance without sacrificing power and impact. Flavours of damson, liquorice, charcoal and tobacco are layered, sexy and polished. I'm not going too far when I say that I love this. You can start drinking it soon, but it will stay on this current plateau for a good while. (JA)"

Tasting Notes
Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is one of the most significant second growths in Pauillac, Bordeaux. It neighbors first-growth powerhouse, Château Latour, with whom the estate shares a similar terroir and climate. This helps to explain the quality of the wine at Comtesse de Lalande, which is sometimes referred to as "nearly first growth".
All five Bordeaux grapes are grown on the estate's 85 hectares (210 acres) in both Pauillac and Saint-Julien, although historically this was dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Wines from Comtesse de Lalande are some of the most voluptuous to come from the Médoc due to the high proportion of Merlot in the blend. However, the amount of Cabernet Sauvignon in the blends is increasing to lend more structure and backbone to future vintages. This will not decrease Merlot's place in the cuvée, but rather the amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
