Arguably one of the best Cabernets from Barossa
Because most of Rockford's Cabernet Sauvignon comes from vineyards adjacent to Rifle Range Road, it seemed the most appropriate name for this wine which has been part of Rockford since the very beginning.

"I do like Barossa Cabernet. This is an interesting wine, and sort of atypical for Rifle Range. In some respects, it reminds me a little of a more modern expression of Barolo from a warm vintage, which indeed is a very strange thing to say, though that’s how I find it. It’s all dark cherry and plum, new leather, some tar and roses, liquorice, menthol, a smattering of cedar oak. It’s slightly baked in fruit profile, but has supple grainy tannin, a dried herb character, walnut and earthy flavours, with a minty finish of good length. I like it, but it’s a different expression of RR, that’s for sure."

Tasting Notes

Rocky O’Callahan is one of  the Australian wine industry’s true originals, and since 1984 he has done things his way at Rockford. To this day all fruit is processed using a single crusher and basket press from the 1890’s. This process can take up to six weeks to crush the 220 tonnes of grapes harvested annually, at many modern wineries this might be achieved in a single day! This steadfast commitment to quality and tradition results in wines of character unmatched anywhere in Australia.
