97 / 100"This is a most beautiful and engaging chardonnay. It was a hot vintage, but the early picked chardonnay has come out really well. Aromas of jasmine cracked seashell and light lemon essence. The palate is so precisely defined and linear with deep penetration and length. A light crunchy cordite edge on the finish. A finer and more elegantly refined style to the outstanding 2021."

"Even though Chardonnay’s home territory lies in one of France’s most continental locations, this endlessly adaptable variety has taken well to the maritime conditions of Western Australia’s Margaret River, with its warm nights, luminosity and year-round gentleness. Chardonnay in Margaret River is fashioned with scrupulous restraint today, and this young example from the warm 2022 vintage is no exception. It’s pale in colour, more silver and green than gold, with clean, understated aromas in which shy stone-fruits are seen through a mist of milky softness. On the palate, the wine is clean and lithe, its fruits appearing slender at first yet gradually filling with time in the mouth, and characterised by appetising lemon and lime flavours. Just four months’ oak is barely more than a kiss, yet it provides the brushstrokes of richness needed to set off this delicate fruit at its best."

Tasting Notes
House of Cards, a small 100% family-owned and operated Margaret River vineyard, has emerged victorious at the prestigious Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA). The organic winery's 2022 Ace of Spades Chardonnay trumped more than 18,000 global wines to claim the competition’s top accolade ‘Best in Show’, cementing its position as a leading producer of world-class Chardonnay right here in Western Australia.
The DWWA is renowned worldwide for recognising excellence in winemaking and showcasing the finest wines from across the globe. House of Cards' remarkable achievement at this esteemed competition is a testament to its unwavering commitment to excellence, innovation, and the art of winemaking.
Vineyard owners Travis and Elizabeth Wray have nurtured their creative passion, building a family lifestyle centred around producing exceptional wines. Serving as a playground for their three young boys who actively participate in the winemaking process, rolling up their sleeves to help mum and dad, House of Cards creates a meaningful journey for the Wray family.
Since its establishment in 2011, House of Cards has evolved from a humble tin shed cellar door with only three wines listed from their first vintage to a flourishing 12-hectare, 100% Australian Certified Organic (ACO) single vineyard. The estate now features two chalet accommodations nestled in a secluded peppy tree grove and an on-site restaurant, Chow's Table, renowned for delivering traditional Chinese/Malay cuisine with a modern twist.
The name 'House of Cards’ is inspired by the gamble that farmers and vignerons face each year, emphasising the importance of making the most of the cards dealt by Mother Nature.
True to the essence of the winery’s name the Wray family has perfected the art of process and delivery. Taking pride in their home-grown approach, innovative winemaker Travis spearheads vineyard operations while creative expert Elizabeth is the driving force behind marketing and sales to collectively create an authentic family-operated end-to-end business. Together, they have turned House of Cards, and their international award winning wine, into Margaret River's most unique and best-kept secret. -Credit Simon Crossland
