Tasting Notes
From the 5-Star 2010 vintage, described at the time as a ‘Vintage of a Lifetime’, this is a deliciously appealing and fine Margaux. It’s from the historic Desmirail property, today owned by Denis Lurton. A very elegant, poised, fruit laden claret. Château Desmirail is a beautiful, classic Margaux estate, renowned for fine claret since the 17th century. It was named after owner Jean Desmirail, a lawyer. In the 1850s the Desmirail family sold it to Monsieur Sipière, manager of Château Margaux. Twentieth century owners include the Mendelssohn family (of composer fame), Château Palmer and Lucien Lurton. Today the château is run by Lucien’s son Denis Lurton, who lavishes every care on its wines. The vineyards all lie on the Haut-Médoc’s fine gravel soil, while the winery is ideally designed, all gravity fed and equipped with the latest kit, including vats of various sizes, so each plot can be fermented separately. A year’s ageing in barrel lends the finishing touch to this fine claret.

Scores
94 / 100"Cherries, blackcurrants and some dark purple florals on the nose, a little confected. Strong and round, upfront, tannic and mouthfilling but in a crushed velvet, powdery, wet-stone way with graphite and liquorice elements, before a gentle, tapered finish. A touch dry, but it has persistence, acidity and a cool freshness. A good wine to have with food, and it may settle some more as it ages."

"Love the nose with bright cherries and berries. Full body, with very velvety tannins and a dusty, fruity finish. Dried cherry aftertaste."
