Italy
Discover Italy's rich winemaking heritage, boasting some of the world's oldest wine production methods. From the majestic Alps in the north to the sun-drenched vineyards of Sicily in the south, Italy's diverse landscapes offer ideal conditions for vine cultivation. With its expansive coastline and varied topography of mountains and hills, Italy provides a range of micro-climates and soil types, fostering the growth of over 350 authorized grape varieties, with an estimated 550 varieties cultivated across the country.Italian wines are classified into four categories, aimed at ensuring both origin and quality are recognized. While Vino da Tavola (VDT) represents basic table wines sourced from Italy, Indicazione Geografica Tipica (IGT) indicates wines from more specific regions, offering higher quality without adhering to stringent regulations. Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) and Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG) denote wines with even stricter regulations regarding grape varieties, yields, and alcohol content. DOCG wines undergo blind-tasting sessions to guarantee the highest quality. Italy boasts 32 DOCG appellations, 311 DOC appellations, and 120 IGT zones.
Explore renowned wine regions such as Piedmont, Tuscany, Abruzzo, Veneto, Sicily, and Sardinia, each showcasing distinctive varietals. Among the whites, you'll find Pinot Grigio, Arneis, Vermentino, Verdicchio, Fiano, and Moscato, while popular red varieties include Sangiovese, Barbera, Dolcetto, Nebbiolo, Montepulciano, Primitivo, Nero d'Avola, and Corvina. Embrace Italy's vinicultural diversity and savor the essence of its terroir in every glass.
