93 / 100"This might be the broken record for 2021 but go long, very long, on Rieslings from this vintage, from both Eden Valley and the Clare Valley. You will not regret it. The first thing to know about Dandelion Vineyards is that founder, Zar Brooks, is from the Chester Osborn school of names and labels. No surprise as they worked together and it may have even been Zar which led Chester down that road. Zar Brooks is the Tolstoy in back labels. A curious name, sure, but a special wine. The Enchanted Garden vineyard is seven acres in Eden Valley. Whole bunches were harvested by hand, before destemming, though no crushing, to fill the press. Free run juice was fermented in small tanks between 11 and 13°C. Zar notes that the wine is suitable for vegans. Pale yellow with beautiful aromas. Lifted florals, bath salts, musk, lavender, spices and lovely lemony notes. If anything, perhaps a little forward but this is a Riesling aimed more at earlier drinking (it will still age and improve for 8-10 years) than the Wonderland of Eden Valley. The wine lingers beautifully and is excellent value."

"Some herbs, spice and fresh lime and lemon-peel aromas on offer here, with a light peppery edge, too. The plate is framed in zesty acidity and holds fresh apple and ice fruit flavor. Chalky, fresh and dry finish. Drink or hold. Screw cap."

Tasting Notes
The Enchanted Garden Eden Valley Riesling is made entirely from a vineyard which was planted in 1910 and thrives to this day. Whole bunches were hand picked in early March then destemmed in small batches without crushing the fruit to fill our press exactly. The free run juice was then fermented in small tanks between 11 and 14 degrees Celcius, the wine has a high level of natural acidity, 7.8 grams per litre, a pH of 2.88 and although bone dry, only 11.5% alcohol. With classic Riesling aromatics of citrus zest, lemon foliage and hints of dragon fruit flowers, etched by a clear steely minerality this wine holds the promise of a future, well-cellared bouquet of honey, caraway and rye. On the palate the wine has a weight that is all fresh rain water, this is an attractively textural Riesling displaying the variety’s intense purity. Bone dry, its structure and length is underpinned by racy acidity.
