95 / 100"Very deep, dark, and youthful colour, with a lot of purple in the rim. The bouquet is dominated by toasty vanillan, coconutty oak. There is tremendously concentrated fruit beneath, but it needs time to mellow down a bit. There are masses of soft, fine, drying tannins adding a savoury element to the finish. There's a core of raisiny sweetness, crushed ants and leather, before the drying tannins chime in. A classic Big South Australian Red with massive body augmented by forests of US oak. It's a style Penfolds lovers would recognise"
