"The nose is fresh, finely contained which will disappear quickly over the time and offer a bright side of it. There are notes of bright cherry, crushed blackberry and small notes of violet associated with small touches of lily, bright purple plum as well as fresh gravel, slight hints of fresh blond tobacco, zan, pepper, an imperceptible hint of small blue flowers and paprika. The palate is fruity and offers juiciness, a beautiful gourmandize, roundness, a small fat, freshness, suavity as well as a tangy frame. On the palate this wine expresses notes of pulpy/juicy blackberry, bright raspberry and small notes of small red currants associated with small touches of violet, fresh cornflower as well as fine hints of small fleshy / juicy purple plums, fresh gravels, zan, a subtle hint of cardamom, pepper and an imperceptible hint of varietal / sense of the place. Good length. Tannins are precise and elegant. Persistence with hints of chocolate and a beautiful stretched side. A fine grainy side on the finish which brings fine chewiness to the wine"

"At present it is still a bit reduced, but the immense potential shows through, with the bright raspberry fruit showing notes of mineral and mint. There is something sensual about the lovely silky texture and it should take on weight once it has a bit of time in bottle. This comes from a 0.14ha holding next to Rossignol's cousin Boillot. The location is superb - just north of Chapelle-Chambertin and downslope from Mazis. The grapes are fermented after a brief cold soak as 50% whole-cluster, gently extracted and aged in cask"

"Glowing purple, a colour not suggesting any undue degree of ripeness. Raspberry and fresh plums show on the nose. Clean and pure with real elegance here, perfectly balanced across the palate, not massively concentrated but properly fine. Still a little bit of the youthful astringency which I rather like."

Tasting Notes

This is one of the most complete Gevrey village wines you will find: multiple parcels scattered around the village which are vinified in three parts. One part comes from the light stony soil at the bottom of the valley, giving a cool elegance; the second is a cluster of parcels in the middle of the village on clay soil, giving body and structure; the third is a group of parcels below the grands crus, giving a complexity and finesse. The vines are all aged between 45 and 85 years, and the concentration and complexity this wine delivers for the price is hard to beat. It is a serious wine in 2020, with excellent depth of flavour and a distinctly dry, savoury finish.
