98 / 100"Block 5 lives up to its exalted reputation in what appears to have been an excellent Central Otago vintage. A fragrant, almost floral nose with a the scent of dark berries, violet and wildflowers. Concentrated flavours on the palate with a stronger fruit focus together with a savoury, spicy influence. Obviously youthful but still approachable although the wine appears to have hidden depths that will be revealed in time. A smooth, rich texture adds appeal while a lengthy finish indicates impressive power. 20 JAN 2015"

"Youthful, vibrant, deep red/purple colour, and the wine has impressive all-round vitality and freshness. Multi-faceted, spicy bouquet of richness and power, which also exactly describes the palate. The acidity is harmonious; there's masses of tannin but it's fleshy, supple tannin. Great power and length: this should age superbly. A grand cru of a pinot. Miraculous stuff. 13 APR 2015"

"Raspberry scents, truffle, earthiness with some clove, peppery/herbal notes – it’s a compact but complex perfume for sure. Trim, taut and very succulent to taste, with impressive concentration of ripe fruit flavour, touch of mocha to muscle-bound tannins and superior length of flavour from stone-and-mineral laden acidity. Super wine, really needs time."

"Cool start to the season and then a warm harvest. Very obvious tannins initially. Deep and rich with some liqueur elements. Long and luscious. Quite textured and deep flavoured. Quite a bit of grunt. Long and vibrant. Not too dissimilar to the 2012 Cornish Point."

Tasting Notes
Felton Road is a premium wine producer stablished in 1991, the estate owns 32 ha of vineyards in the Bannockburn sub-region. They prioritise minimal intervention in both the vineyard and the winery, resulting in wines of unparalleled purity and complexity.
"Beautifully perfumed with distinct floral aromas of rose petal and violets that are
supported by the hallmark dark cherry and spice. The ripeness of the warmer vintage is apparent with slightly softer acidity that allows the wine to flow and expand, creating a sensation of floating in the finest feather duvet. Classically formed with the unmistakable pedigree, finesse and balance that is Block 5." - Felton Road
