"One of a pair of impressive Nuits premiers crus in Guillaume Tardy's range, again located on the Vosne side of the village. This comes from clay soils, as its name suggests, and there's a little bit of influence from the combe here, but it's still a smooth, supple Pinot with stylish oak, silky tannins and a refreshing tang on the finish."

"A background application of wood does not impede the appreciation of the airy and fresh aromas of red currant, cherry, violet and a wisp of the sauvage. There is better volume and concentration to the middle weight flavors that offer better depth and persistence though the wood shows up again on the finish and it's prominent enough that it seems clear that this will need a few years to better integrate it."
- Burghound

"Medium deep purple, some of the village wines were denser in colour. Red plum fruit on the nose. Quite fresh on the palate with a little firmness behind, a middle weight Nuits but the persistence at the finish shows does indeed show 1er Cru quality."

"Dark-fruited and spicy on the nose. Elegant and refined in a rather sober style. Tannins are just a little chewy at the moment but everything is in place for the future. Good length too. (JH)"

Tasting Notes

"The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Argillats 1er Cru needs some coaxing from the glass, only reluctantly revealing sultry blackberry, iodine and hints of blue fruit lending some “light” with time. This is certainly tightly coiled at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with a smooth, velvety, corpulent texture, a mixture of red and black fruit and a touch of gaminess toward the finely tuned finish. Good potential." - Neal Martin
