96 / 100"Notes of truffles and sweet spice mingle into rich swathes of blackberry and black-cherry nectar in this fruity, mouthfilling Pinot Noir. It's a plusher, softer expression of the Grands-Echezeaux reflective of a hot, dry vintage but maintains a graphite edge and mineral tension on the finish. At peak from 2025 to 2035, it's likely to hold further still."

"A brooding if moderately oaky nose grudgingly reveals its aromas of fresh black cherry and violet plus and lovely range of spice facets. There is a more refined if less powerful mouthfeel to the medium weight and tautly muscular flavors that possess slightly better depth on the more structured and youthfully austere finish. This beauty is built to age and is going to need it."

Tasting Notes
The Mongeard-Mugneret Burgundies always show well in their youth, this is especially so in a more accessible vintage like 2017. Deep slightly cloudy dark red colour with black tinged edges and a dark red hue. Alluring and complex the nose features perfumed like aromatics of spicy dark cherries infused with violets, ripe strawberry and hints of sour cherries. Some anise, vanillin cedar, subtle dried herbs and light forest floor notes are also present. A whiff of game meats then begins to appear. Delicious red to dark fruits in conjunction with a supple mouth feel make for a very approachable Echezeaux. An expansive power wave of flavour covering the full breadth of the palate with underlying anise, vanillin cedar, forest floor, dried herbs, a gentle meatiness and spice. Silky yet structured tannins with a very long aftertaste of great persistence.
Drink over the next 8-10 years.
