"(Jamessuckling.com) A new top-tier pinot from Murdoch Hill to sit alongside the Rocket chardonnay. This has a very pure red-cherry and raspberry nose with striking fragrance. Very focused palate with filigree tannins and vivid acidity. Superior concentration and elegance. Drink or hold. Screw cap."

"Top New Release Australian Reds, June/July 21 The first Murdoch Hill pinot noir from this new mantle; a combination of two vineyards, delivering pristine red cherry, raspberry and strawberry nose. The palate has piercingly intense cherry fruit flavour framed in fine, long tannin. 100 dozen made. Screw cap"

"(Halliday Wine Companion) A best fruit and best barrel selection from the Piccadilly Valley pinot program. Wild fermentation, averaging 40% whole bunches and heading up to 60% new oak in a mix of larger oak vessels. Fragrant and lifted to begin, crimson fruits and foresty, sappy underlines, elegant flow across the palate with a delicate earthy, woody spice. Nothing extravagant, nothing out of place either. Serene."

"(The Wine Front) Winemaker Michael Downer has his eye in with his vineyard sources in the Adelaide Hills and this, Apollo, joins Rocket in the ‘Galactic Series’. This comes from three vineyards, sees 40% whole bunch wild ferment, hangs out in three varying sizes of barrel. Big spice perfume, red cherry, some green herbal notes, white pepper. Pretty perfume. Savoury and sweet at once. Palate is bright, quite compact, fresh and lively, lifts on stemmy-herbal-peppery characters and feels flooded with spice of all kinds. Quite lightweight in depth, but great drinkability and a lot of charm."

Tasting Notes

Sourced from the best selection of vineyards in the Piccadilly Valley and Lobethal districts. A beautifully perfumed Pinot, with scents of wild strawberries and just a little morello cherry, together with some Asian spices and a little complexing charcuterie. The whole bunches are barely perceptible, telling us how immaculate the fruit was. This supremely elegant, layered yet intense wine finishes with superb fine tannins on a lovely, long finish. A fabulous new entry into the pantheon of great Australian Pinot, and new star in the Adelaide Hills firmament.
