"A shower of fine, mouth-coating, millefeuille tannins, which cloak and enmesh the fruit, lending gravitas. With time and air, it reveals glimpses of a seam of red cherry/cherrystone, blackcurrant, and blueberry fruit, yet to be mined. Chalky, mineral acidity maintains the flow. Classy oak polishes to a fine sheen. Impressive structure from a hillside block on deep red clay marl over clay, with limestone bedrock. Embryonic."

Tasting Notes

The soil type in this block as the geology is mostly Terra Rossa soil, with a crumbly red top soil and deep red clay over marl clay with limestone bedrock. The La Roccia vineyard is planted at a varied elevation, ranging from 70 to 100 metres. The vines are 15 years old with a mixture of clones including Pommard, D4V2, 115 and 667 In this vineyard we maintain low yields of less than 4 tonnes per hectare. Our La Roccia is always picked first out the Single Blocks as this block has the lowest yield and therefore the most exposure to the northern sun.

Hand-picked grapes are processed immediately to preserve their integrity and purity. The fruit undergoes wild fermentaton in open top fermenters with all fruit in the 2022 vintage of this wine being whole bunch. After fermentation the ferments are pressed first and then gravity fed to a mixture of second and third fill 225L French oak barriques in our underground cellar. The wine matures in these conditions until it is transferred to tan
