95 / 100"From a parcel near a small creek on silt over porous gravelly clay, anise and cinnamon soar alongside the deep- scented, sweet, ripe fruit. The palate is lithe, with supple acidity, black, red, and blue berry, cherry, currant, plum fruit, and subtle radicchio and mulch hints. Layered and expansive, warm terra-cotta tannins support. Sensual, with the balance and stature to age well."

Tasting Notes
The Ruscello vineyard is planted at 35 to 50 meters elevation on a geology of grey silty gravel over porous gravelly clay. The vines are 30 years old, and these are the oldest vines of the three Single Block Pinot Noirs. There is a mixture of clones in this block including MV6, 777, 2051 and Morilla. We keep the yields low at less than 4 tonnes per hectare.
Hand-picked grapes are processed immediately to preserve their integrity and purity. The fruit undergoes wild fermentation in open top fermenters with all fruit in the 2022 vintage of this wine being whole bunch (100%). After fermentation the ferments are pressed first and then gravity fed to a mixture of second and third fill 225L French oak barriques in our underground cellar. The wine matures in these conditions until it is transferred to tank a month prior to bottling. Bottled in June 2023 our premium Single Block Pinot Noirs are matured in bottle on cork for over a year prior to release in July 2024.
