Introduction to Château d’Aqueria
This historic one hundred acre property is considered one of the jewels of the southern Rhône Valley. Nestled in the heart of the garrigue with the backdrop of an unmistakably Mediterranean hillside, the vineyards of Château d’Aqueria extend across the appellations of Tavel and Lirac. In the distance, Mont Ventoux keeps a friendly eye on the property which radiates a gentle calm.
Château d’Aqueria’s sandy soils are perfect for producing great rosés with exceptional balance between freshness and maturity. Its complexity comes from a blend of six varieties of red and white grapes. Grenache Noir, Syrah and Mourvèdre give exceptional colour and tannic structure whilst Clairette, Bourboulenc and Cinsault complete the blend beautifully bringing a generous variety of aromas and a fresh finish.
Tasting Notes
Appearance: A brilliant and vibrant coral-pink hue with salmon highlights, Château d’Aqueria’s Tavel Rosé radiates elegance and charm, embodying the quintessential beauty of Tavel wines.
Nose: The bouquet is expressive and layered, opening with ripe red berry aromas such as wild strawberries, raspberries, and cherries. Subtle floral notes of rose petals and orange blossoms enhance the aromatic complexity, alongside hints of citrus zest and a whisper of crushed herbs like thyme and rosemary.
Palate: On the palate, this Tavel rosé is structured and full-bodied, showcasing a delightful balance of fruit and freshness. Juicy flavours of red currants, watermelon, and blood orange dominate, while a touch of white peach and apricot add depth. Mid-palate reveals a slight minerality, accompanied by delicate spices like pink peppercorn and a savoury herbaceous undertone.
Finish: The finish is long and refreshing, with a crisp acidity that leaves lingering notes of red berries, citrus, and a hint of salinity. The wine’s texture is smooth yet vibrant, with a weight that speaks to its complexity and pedigree.
Overall: Château d’Aqueria Tavel Rosé 2022 is a standout wine that pairs beautifully with food or shines on its own. Its bold, fruit-forward profile and elegant structure make it a perfect match for Mediterranean dishes, grilled seafood, or even lightly spiced cuisine. A rosé that captures the essence of Tavel with grace and sophistication.
