95 / 100"A riped and generously proportioned blend of grenache, syrah, Mourvèdre and cinsault from this famous region within the greater Rhone of France. Bursting with bright concentrated ripe fruits showing a balance between the sweet generosity of the grenache and its perfumed ethereal lift and the firmer thread of the small portion of cinsault, which makes quite a significant contribution. A little rustic charm of mourvèdre and middle palate filling from syrah and there you have it. Mighty impressive."

"A blend of mostly Grenache, the 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape was brought up mostly in foudre with a small portion in barrels. Semi-opaque ruby-hued, with lots of floral, spicy, peppery, Provençal aromas and flavors, it's medium to full-bodied, has a ripe, sexy, yet weightless mouthfeel, silky tannins, and a great finish. It's a gorgeous, classic Châteauneuf Du Pape that will drink well right out of the gate yet still evolve for two decades."

"A classic, solid, well made and technically precise Châteauneuf. It’s complete, with ample ripe tannins, a firm, dense base of concentrated black fruits leading to a long finish. The wine is introspective and painfully young, and will need time to harmonise. But it has the freshness, balance and power required for long ageing. Likely to be good value."

"This is exciting stuff. A cracking Chateauneuf du Pape from a superb vintage for the region, from a highly respected maker. Fair to say that a pedigree like that means much is expected. And much is delivered. This is a blend of 65% Grenache, 20% Syrah (Shiraz), 10% Mourvèdre and 5% Cinsault and the result is an excellent example of a very fine Chateauneuf. A hefty 15.5% alcohol, but the balance here makes it seemingly melt away. A deep mauve, the nose is wonderfully evocative with plums and cherries, tobacco leaves, cocoa powder, aniseed and cloves. It is a spicy style, with a flick of pepper, and a really appealing note like a freshly baked cherry pie. Well structured, the wine has balance, focus, intensity, fine satiny tannins and very good length. It will drink beautifully for at least the next ten to twelve years."

Tasting Notes
Domaine De La Janasse is located in the region Côtes-Du-Rhône within the Château-Neuf-du-Pape appellation. In 1973 Aimé Sabon took over the winery from his father, who had been selling his grapes to a big corporation since 1912.
Blend of 65% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, 5% Cinsault. On the nose ripe blackberries, black cherries, and plums, accented by hints of dried herbs, licorice, and cracked black pepper. On the palate, a full-bodied red wine unfolds layers of complexity, revealing notes of dark chocolate and tobacco, supported by well-integrated tannins and a backbone of vibrant acidity.
