95 / 100"Wonderfully peachy nose with just a hint of caramelized apple. Lovely succulence on the silky, medium-bodied palate. Very long finish in which the ripeness and wet stone freshness are exactly balanced. Already excellent integration of the restrained grape sweetness. Drink or hold."

"Tasted young, this sprightly spätlese announces itself with strikes of flint and an intensely smoky, earthen veil of reduction. With a bit of time and aeration (even 15 minutes introduces a remarkable transformation) you'll find deep, dazzling layers of crisp white peach, lime and lemongrass speckled with salt and stone. It's a leaner expression of the Wehlener Sonnenuhr, with a delicacy of texture that juxtaposes a piercing, pure fruit profile. A thirst-quenching sip with just a hint of sweetness that lingers on the finish. Hold until 2026 if possible, it will develop stunningly for decades. The 2022 Riesling Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Spätlese is shy, but stone fruit shimmers through; think white peach and golden Mirabelle. The palate falls into step with citrus-edged, golden Mirabelle plums, fresh, almost sorbet-like in their heightened impression. The beauty here lies in restraint and absolutely harmonious balance. This is not much sweeter than a Kabinett, just a little fuller, rounder, but still svelte, elegant, full in flavor, light on its feet and medium sweet only. Wonderful. (Medium)"

Tasting Notes
Prüm uses the metaphor “Pommard-like” to describe Zeltinger’s broader shoulders. It’s a slumbering giant with tightly wound crystalline fruit underpinned by an intense slatey core. The Wehlener, in a word, is breathtaking. Filled with galloping texture, phenolic tension and complex depth, there’s an extra dimension of structure here. Even so, it is just giving us a glimpse of its great future—remember that patience is a virtue!
