Tasting Notes

The fruit for this wine is predominantly Pinot Gris which was purchased from the Cobboboonee Vineyard in Heywood. The remainder of the blend is made up of Semillon. The Pinot Gris was left on skins overnight, before gentle, cremant cycle pressing. The juice was fermented naturally in a combination of stainless steel and old oak. The Semillon portion was whole bunch pressed, settled in tank, then naturally fermented in old oak. Both wines were taken off gross lees shortly after fermentation and spent around 6 weeks on fine lees only. Screwcap. Bottled September 2023. Delicately perfumed with apple blossom and macerated strawberries. A soft, creamy mid palate has fresh cherry and a fine, mineral backbone. Generous textural integrity throughout the palate lends length, with fresh acidity making for delicious drinking.

"From Henty, a new wine and a new paradigm for Crawford River in release(s) that don’t come from estate fruit, waiting for their new vineyards to come on board, hence Vineyard Series has emerged. This is a clever blend of pinot gris fermented on skins for 24 hours married to semillon, fermented and matured in old oak, coupled to that skinsy gris. Tightly wound, grippy and dry with a skittish line of acidity, good, tart, red fruit characters, a touch of dry pear, some faint spice elements and a delicate grassiness. Pleasing, summery style, teetering into a kind of Provencale, lighter paradigm of rosé but marches to its own unique beat. Pleasing drinking."
