97 / 100"Combining power and opulence, the wine shows black and purple fruit intensity, cedar, dark cocoa and toasted spice aromas on the nose. The palate exhibits outstanding concentration and density, wonderfully complemented by velvety texture and seamlessly melded tannins. It's mouth-filling and expansive with seductive complexity, finishing superbly long and captivating. At its best: 2026 to 2041. $180.00."

"A McLaren Shiraz which is powerful and powerfully flavoured, from older vines, which should drink well for at least a couple of decades. The wine spent two years maturing in a mix of French and American oak, some new. Black/maroon, we have notes of chocolate, mocha and gorgeous cassis notes, as well as licorice, florals and coffee grinds. Notes of cherry morph more to the sour cherry on the palate, which really works. The oak integration is proceeding well and the wine has impressive balance. A long, long finish here, with silky, and yet slightly chewy tannins. A really appealing and exciting red."

"Intense and obviously youthful wine with chocolate/mocha, Christmas cake, vanilla, coconut and sweet date flavours. A fine medley of succulent flavours—balanced, complex and deliciously drinkable."

"A rich and opulent wine brimming with all that McLaren Vale richness. Red berry aromas showing a mix of vibrant cherry and raspberry laced with deeper plummy blackberry fruits. Seamlessly integrated palate reveals a wonderful combination of dark fruits, with a little vanilla bean and dark chocolate richness. Tannins are firm though gently and the mix of French and American oak has been easily taken up by the fruit concentration. Lots to like about this one."

Tasting Notes
The Shiraz fruit was hand picked from 80 year old vines, gently destemmed & cold soaked on skins for 14 days, fermented slowly for a further 14 days. Giving time to allow slow extraction of colour & silky tannins. This extra time allows the wine to develop great depth of flavour & palate structure. The ferment is slowly pressed straight into a mixture of French & American oak barrels. The magic happens over the next 24 months where the wine will develop & integrate into a special montage of flavourful delights.
Aromas of ripe red berries, vanilla & coconut. Full bodied palate structure with a complex mix of flavours, ripe red berries, coconut, chocolate & spice. great middle palate sweetness with well integrated oak characters. Well balanced & long silky tannin finish.
