94 / 100"The 2018 Shiraz Dave’s Block Blythmans Road Blewitt Springs boasts a slightly hard-edged, crystalline character to its cherry fruit. French oak adds hints of caramel softness, but this young wine is still angular on its medium-bodied palate. Concentrated, dark, intense and long on the finish, it looks to have the ability to age, but I don’t think it will ever provide the same pleasure as the 2016."

"Blythmans Road, Blewitt Springs. 50 year old vines. Dave’s Block is a pretty grouse name for a wine. I like it. It’s maybe not for me to comment on value when it comes to wine, as it’s kind of arbitrary, but these single vineyard wines seem ‘fully priced’. Dark chocolate and liquorice, black fruit, mint and floral perfume, beef jerky too. It’s blue and black fruited, a sort of blueberry and blackcurrant sweetness in with dried beef, tannin is thick and grainy, acidity firm and a perhaps a little too frisky, but settled enough, and spicy with it. It has a distinctly brine/saline character too, which takes away some of the drinking pleasure, at least for me, but a good wine with plenty of oomph and character."

Tasting Notes
Very deep garnet in color with a purple hint, the 2014 Shiraz Max's Garden offers a gorgeous baked cherries, plum preserves and dark chocolate scented nose with hints of licorice, spice box and potpourri. Medium to full-bodied with a real richness of flavor and expression as opposed to heaviness, it has a velvety texture and wonderfully long, spicy finish.
