Scores

94 / 100

"Dark fruit, liquorice, violet, medium-bodied, plenty of tannin and earthiness, plumper style (in context), perfume, raspberry and earth leads on to a fine finish. Slight chalkiness to tannin, underlining the wine. There’s plenty to get into here. It’s drinking well now, and is easy to like. Accessible, you might say."

94 / 100

"A mid ruby. From a site abutting 4 Acres, planted in 2003. Digestible and mid weighted, the signatures of the Hunter. Sweet loam and terracotta aromas, the calling card. Larger oak and judicious extraction, the conduits. Sarsaparilla, bergamot, violet, sweet red and black cherry and a sluice of anise. More intensity than the Mother, with similar sap, a bit more flare and greater pinosity."

Tasting Notes

The Old Hut vineyard was planted in 2003 using cuttings from the 4 Acres vines, which are situated right next door. It features the same ideal soils for growing super-premium Hunter Valley Shiraz.

A vibrant nose of dark fruits and spice. Even though this block is located right beside 4 Acres, the wine has a bigger structure and completely different weight, although it is still only medium bodied. It possesses richer fruits, along with fine tannins and a soft acid structure, and shows no influence of new oak.
