Tasting Notes
Burgo Viejo is recognised by some of the most prestigious international competitions, such as Decanter, International Wine Challenge and Mundus Vini, as one of the best wineries in Spain. In the late 1980s, six families of Riojan farmers Castillo Garcia, Galán Garijo, Gurría García, Marques Malumbres, Rivas Marques, and Ruiz Casas joined forces to establish Bodegas de Familia Burgo Viejo. Together, they oversee 200 hectares of vineyards, meticulously tended with age old wine growing traditions passed down through generations. This collective effort yields a diverse array of wines, harmonizing La Rioja's rich heritage with contemporary market preferences. This Rioja displays deep violet color, a clean and very bright nose intensely marked by blackberry and licorice, smooth, powerful, and long mouthfeel. 85% Tempranillo, 10% Garnacha & 5% Mazuelo

91 / 100"A blend of tempranillo, Garnacha and mazuelo from Spain’s Rioja displaying typical varietal purity and fruit vibrancy. It is what you expect with this style. Bright red and crimson hues, then a nice mix of blackberry and licorice before the delicious sweet fruits of blackberry and spicy raspberry jubiness emerge from the mid-palate to finish with a slightly savoury edge. Great current drinking."

"Violet-red to the eye, this wine has aromas of blackberry, milk chocolate and orange blossom. Blackberry continues onto the palate, joined by flavors of blueberry, clove, mocha and violet that are encased in a web of fine tannins."
