"The 2021 Chianti Classico La Misse di Candialle is bright, bold and punchy. Dollops of Malvasia Nera and Canaiolo lend complexity. Whereas so many wines in this vintage are pretty accessible, Candialle’s 2021 is going to need a few years to soften. The purity of the flavors is striking though."

Tasting Notes

From high density vineyard trained in the albarello or bush vine training system. It is 100% Sangiovese that was fermented using native yeast in unlined concrete for a month. It was then aged in concrete to preserve a purity of fruit and the natural florality of the wine. A brilliant and evocative wine! Jarkko and Josephin Peranen are a husband and wife team who farm their 42 hectares (only 11.5 planted to grapes) organically in the Conca d'Oro (golden bowl) in the heart of Chianti Classico in Tuscany. The Peranen's dedication to slow and natural viticulture and vineyard management is evident in every aspect of their winery starting with their association with a group of like-minded winemakers who are working to have their village of Panzano become the first viticultural region of Italy to be completely organic. From grape to glass there is minimal intervention and ecological stewardship.

Sangiovese, Malvasia Nera, and Canaiolo. Co-harvested/co-fermented in unlined concrete with macerations lasting a month. Aged in unlined concrete vats. This is Candialle’s Chianti Classico ‘annata,’ though its release date could easily classify it as a Riserva.
