94 / 100"The fourth release of this wine. The advent of more premium wines is an interesting thing at Henshcke, and a worthy evolution. From shiraz planted in 1968. “A different version of shiraz” explains Prue Henschke, “I’d say the acidic sands make this more typical of Eden Valley as a style, in some respects”. Cooler and lifted red, supple texture, lots of ripe and fresh red berry fruits, twiggy spice, alpine herb notes and licks of kirsch and cassis in the mix. Some lavender and violet notes, wintergreen herbs too. Fine, silky tannins wrap the wine beautifully. It finishes with dark cherry and some mocha choc-savoury elements too. Pretty wine, with good heft, bound up well. It’s a lush and riper rendition, lots of flavour, lots of creamy, rich, red and black fruit character, vanilla cream, dried salty herbs, toasty elements, peanut brittle and new leather notes to sniff on and to taste, per se. Sticky ribbons of tannin in tow. It’s a good mesh of flavours, dark, brooding, the finish a little skittish with flinty mineral notes, gravel-earth elements and sooty clove spice. Needs time, but a wine powering along with promise."

"An enticing and perfumed nose of heather, dried herbs and lavender with roasted spices, peppercorns and ripe, fresh blueberries. Beguilingly sweet bur ethereal on the palate with lots of grilled Mediterranean herbs that balance any hint of sweetness from the fruit. Polished, satin-like fannins extend in an effortless, lengthy finish"

Tasting Notes
Medium garnet with crimson hues. Lifted aromas of red plum, red currant, blue and black berries, rose hip and black pepper, with notes of bay leaf, sage, crushed flowering herbs, anise and hints of cedar. The palate is rich and plush, deep and concentrated with layers of spicy red cherry and red currant, interwoven with anise and vanilla. Balanced acidity gives freshness and poise, finishing with elegant, velvety, fine-grained tannins for a long fruit-driven finish.
