Scores

95 / 100

"Medium brick-red colour, with a superbly mellow bouquet of dried herbs, 'forest floor' and mushroomy Burgundy-like notes. Traces of 'roasting pan' juices. The wine is lovely and mellow, soft and mature, complex and classical. It seems quite forward but is in no danger of fading. The texture is refined and the tannins are talcy. A graceful pinot."

95 / 100

"Elegant, silken pinot noir with raspberry, violet, spice, anise, fresh herbs and integrated oak. Certainly not a blockbuster style, although it does show a great deal of finesse and demonstrates surprising power with its lingering finish. The texture is pure Kusuda - very fine and super-smooth."

95 / 100

"Lifted redcurrant gentleness perfumes the nose. White pepper notes add spice to the pleasant red fruit tartness, edged with a hint of woodsmoke. This lets the purity of the fruit take centre stage. Its silky spiderweb tannins give as much structure as the bright acidity. Beautiful."

Tasting Notes

First impression is that the wine is fairly light but the flavour stays in the mouth long after it has been swallowed. Supremely elegant Pinot with great purity and ethereal texture. Raspberry, red cherry, space and chalk/mineral characters are just a few of the descriptors - there are many more subtle flavours.

Tokyo-born Hiroyuki (known as Hiro) Kusuda trained as a lawyer and worked for Fujitsu, then the Consulate General of Japan in Sydney before throwing it all up to pursue his other love, wine and winemaking.
