"Powerful blackberry fruit aromas; similarly powerful and concentrated dark fruit palate; oak and tannin extract in balance."
- James Halliday

94 / 100

"Ripe and open-textured, rife with cherry, currant and blueberry jam flavors, subtly shaded with spicy, slightly smoky overtones that linger along with the fruit on a very persistent finish. A hint of melted wax is intriguing as well. *Top 100 Wines of 2004, Highly Recommended*"
- Wine Spectator

92 / 100

"Medium to deep garnet colored with touch of brick, the 2001 RWT Shiraz opens to notes of tree bark and dusty earth enveloping a meaty, gamey core that is accented by touches of dried berries and potpourri. Quite a lot of fruit and savory flavors in the mouth plus chewy tannins to structure the long finish."

Tasting Notes

Powerful blackberry fruit aromas; similarly powerful and concentrated dark fruit palate; oak and tannin extract in balance.

- James Halliday

Created by the legendary Max Schubert - creator of Penfolds Grange. The Bin 389 is often referred to as 'Poor Man's Grange' or 'Baby Grange', in part because components of the wine are matured in the same barrels that held the previous vintage of Grange. First made in 1960, this was the wine that helped to build Penfolds solid reputation with red wine drinkers.

Intense blueberry, blackberry, cassis, dried herb, leather aromas with some musky, minty nuances. Plenty of cherry, blueberry, dried herb flavours, underlying tobacco, earthy notes and fine, grainy, textured tannins. Builds up quite brambly and dry at the finish.

Pair with a nice beef steak, prosciuttos, black bean soup, blue cheese, lamb with rosemary.
