94 / 100"This is a great St. Henri, but this bottle is broody and introspective on the nose, with traces of brine and seaweed suggesting that this will evolve into a very complex, more Bordeaux-like bouquet in ten years time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy, fleshy tannins. There is good weight here, but again it is very primal and is still wondering what career to follow when it leaves school. But is has already had great exam result, so the world is its oyster."

"Deep leathery aromas of bitumen, chocolate, dark cherries, plums and blackberries, scented with violets and spices. Long, succulent and savoury, with vibrant dark sour-edged and lightly salty fruits wound around a firm spine of powdery tannins. Big, but elegant, without a hint of over-ripeness or dead fruit."

Tasting Notes
Put big, rich fruit in a tightly wound package without new oak influence and you have a very ageworthy wine that might not be ready until 2008, and should last through 2020. Blackberries, black pepper, earth, spice and leather provide plenty of complexity without any oak embellishments.
