Tasting Notes
The classic Bordeaux blend has always been a star in Coonawarra. For this one, the team have sourced fruit from discrete blocks in a Reschke vineyard planted 35 years ago on terra rossa soils. The blend is 65% Cabernet and 35% Merlot, with the latter grape harvested first. Cabernet takes an additional three weeks. Harvesting is at night, with sorting and destemming occurring in the vineyard. A gentle crushing and then fermentation over 8 days before pressing. 40% of the wine goes to a mix of second fill French oak hogsheads for 12 months. This classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot is medium to full bodied, displaying elegant aromas of blackcurrant and dark fruit characters. The palate is lengthy and generous, showcasing an array of blueberry and plum with a hint of cedar oak to finish.

Scores
92 / 100"Delightfully ripe and complex with blackcurrant, vanilla, hazelnut and subtle tobacco notes on the nose, it's supple and flavoursome with silky texture and well-integrated tannins. Medium-full and harmonious, making it immediately appealing."

"Dense red/purple in colour, this good value example of the traditional Cab Merlot blend offers red fruits, warm earth, tobacco leaf, florals and blueberries. A more elegant style than many. This is backed by a slight minerality and bright acidity. More blueberries emerge on the palate. Decent length here, with good balance, this is very attractive now but will reward five to six years in the cellar."

"Cigar box, garden mint, freshly turned earth, blackberry bramble and licorice. This displays a deeply satisfying array of dark berry fruits, Christmas spice and tobacco leaf. It gets to the heart of, and is, the very best of the 'old school'. Quite beautiful."
