Tasting Notes
Empyrean quality pushed Reschke into the forefront of the evolving Australian wine industry, establishing it as a reputable Coonawarra icon. As affirmed by leading US wine critic Robert Parker, Reschke “may well be the benchmark for Coonawarra’s famed Cabernet Sauvignon." Coonawarra is regarded as Australia's premier region for Cabernet Sauvignon. The Reschke properties are located on the famous strip of 'terra rossa' soil in Coonawarra and has been owned by the family for almost 100 years. The fruit selected for Empyrean is the best on their 10.8 acre site and is only made in exceptional years. Deep, rich red colour with some brick-red tinges and next to no purple remaining. The wine is big and ballsy, with a lot of character. A burst of mocha from raunchy oak handling, and some charred vegetables. The flavour and aroma are generous and ample, with good structure, line and length. There is still a touch of firmness in the tannins, which are well-balanced. A very complex wine.
