91 / 100"This wine won the Jimmy Watson Trophy a couple of years back. It is only the second wine released under this Reserve D Block Cabernet Sauvignon label. It’s a nice wine but I’m surprised that it floated the boat of the Melbourne show judges. It has thick, chocolaty, blackberried fruit power and there are attractive glints of bright violets and raspberry. There’s some raisining, which adds welcome sweetness and its tannin structure is certainly fine and velvety. For all that though I find a slightly bitter, hard streak running through the wine, and while the sweet power of the wine is certainly dominant, this character is distracting."

Tasting Notes
As a mature wine this 2005 Shiraz is still showing density on the palate and some very luscious fruit characters. However, as with all mature wines, primary fruit notes have given way to complexity. Leather, tobacco leaf and dried herbs and fruits show as the wine, altogether more savoury now, opens in the glass. The sweetness of the finish is balanced all the way by the acidity. A remarkable wine!
