95 / 100"Deep, dark red/purple colour with a big, dried herb, earthy bouquet which has dimension and richness. The wine is big and bold, dense and layered with abundant soft, ripe tannins. This style has breadth and amplitude, with some herbal notes in amongst the red and dark fruits. A bold, ballsy wine with lots of stuffing."

"Consistently one of my favorites in the Torbreck lineup, this year's version, the 2017 Descendant, was co-fermented with 8% Viognier and spent 18 months in barrel. It's full-bodied, rich and decadent, delivering what Torbreck lovers expect in its dark-fruited layers of opulence. Suffused with hints of Mexican chocolate, it finishes long and softly dusty."

Tasting Notes
94% Shiraz & 6% Viognier. This wine is directly descended from RunRig. Intense, perfumed fruits with an underlying layer of lavender and spice. Dense dark cherry and blueberry fruit is perfectly interwoven with subtle nuances of white peach, spice and cinnamon. Full-bodied with great concentration, yet retaining soft supple tannins this suave wine has impeccable balance. Of all the Torbreck wines the Descendent needs patient cellaring. Its immediate charm can be enjoyed upon release with just a few hours breathing, but we recommend locking the other bottles away for at least five years to enjoy its full potential, cellaring for the next 15 years plus.
