Tyrrell’s is home to some of Australia’s most awarded wines including the iconic Vat 1 Semillon.
"A classic Hunter Valley Semillon showing a tightly structured palate with considerable length and breadth of citrus fruit flavours.
The wine shows plenty of pure fresh lemony curd fruit characters and a clean steely, almost bracing acid backbone.

"Vat 1 is invariably the pinnacle of Tyrrell’s Semillon releases, and no change here. Floral, vanilla pod, white peach, lime, glossy and ripe but firm acidity, plenty of flavour and so much charm. It’s long. It’s balanced. It’s a beautiful wine of impeccable composition and graceful style."

Tasting Notes

"A classic Hunter Valley Semillon showing a tightly structured palate with considerable length and breadth of citrus fruit flavours. First produced in 1963 from Semillon grapes grown on our Short Flat vineyard, Vat 1 is fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks and then quietly spends a few years ‘resting 'in bottles. Released after 5 years of bottle age, Vat 1 is a classic example of aged Hunter Semillon. Arguably Australia’s finest Semillon, Vat 1 epitomises the benefits of patient bottle ageing that transforms this unoaked wine into a masterpiece. Tyrrell’s Vat 1 was first produced in 1963 from Semillon grapes grown on the Short Flat Vineyard across the road from Tyrrell’s historic Pokolbin winery
