Scores

94 / 100

"Lots of flowers and strawberries with hints of sauerkraut, tile, seashells, iodine, and herbs. Succulent and firm with direct, pure red-berry fruit. Fresh, dusty tannins give a grip at the end. 30,000 bottles made. Around 15% whole clusters. Drink now or hold."
- James Suckling

94 / 100

"Fermented with 15% whole clusters and aged for eight months in oak barrels, it presents a purple hue. Aromas of cherry, pomegranate, dried flowers and sweet briars intertwine with cedar notes. Dry, lean and taut on the palate, the combination of stem tannins, oak and silky Pinot texture elevates things, creating a faintly plush mouthfeel with a gentle roughness. This is a meticulously crafted Pinot Noir from the deep south of Chile. Drinking window: 2024 - 2034."

Tasting Notes

Baettig is the family project of winemaker Francisco "Pancho" Baettig (Errázuriz) and Carlos de Carlos in Traiguén, some 600 kilometers south of Chile. They planted 15.4 hectares of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir on volcanic soils in 2013.

Baettig has planted nine hectares of pinot noir on the clayey soils of Traiguén, in the Malleco Valley. Fermentation has occurred in steel vats, to which 8% of the whole cluster has been added in an effort to give it structure and fruit. The aging has lasted for ten months in barrels, 10% new wood. And the result is a sweet strawberry juice, but fresh at the same time. It has a kind and creamy density; the flavors are deep and, although it is a serious wine, it is very easy to drink, its flavors are irresistible.

Violet red in color, the nose is very intense, with aromas of cherry, raspberry, blueberry, rose, hibiscus and violet. On the palate it is fresh and long, with juicy acidity and subtle spicy notes. A wine with fine and silky tannins, vibrant freshness and great fruit intensity.
