Scores

96 / 100

"An 80/20% blend. Bright colour; there is a hint of fruit lift and exotic spice to the bouquet ex the mataro, which also subtly alters the shape of the tannins on the finish, the echo feeding back into the savoury nuances of the black fruits on the palate."
- James Halliday

"Quick tasting here, but easy to say I like it better than the straight Shiraz. Fresh, blackberry, gentle earthiness, spices, raspberry – perfume. Medium bodied – melt in the mouth but firm tannin, if that makes any sense – earthy bass, perfect ripeness – almost a roundness, succulence and feeling of ‘purpleness’. Long. Very individual. Just beautiful."
- Gary Walsh

17 / 20

"Pale ruby. Very tense and sinewy. Bone dry and utterly uncompromising. Love the retro label too! Hard work with lots of umami. Desperately needs – nay demands – food. Admirable even if not pleasurable."
- Jancis Robinson MW

Tasting Notes

Wendouree, one of Australia's most revered wineries. Established in 1893 in the Clare Valley, Wendouree is renowned for its commitment to traditional winemaking techniques and low-yield, dry-grown vineyards.

A blend of Shiraz and Mataro (Mourvèdre), creating a harmonious blend that highlights the best qualities of both varieties. The Shiraz brings bold fruit flavors and spice, while the Mataro adds depth, structure, and complexity to the wine.
