"The mataro is very evident in the structure and texture of the wine, adding a savoury/spicy/earthy element. Once again, the overall balance is exemplary - as is the length. Its charms are less immediately obvious, but the end impression is of a totally delicious wine."

"A blend of Shiraz (70%) and Mataro from 1893 Central and 1919 Eastern vineyard plantings, and 1920 Eastern vineyard bush vines. Love the difference the Mataro makes here. Of the three Shiraz based wines, this is my favourite. Plum, black tea and tar, blueberry, licorice, cocoa and dried herb perfume. Medium bodied, almost silky and supple, with a beautiful run of fine grained tannin, fresh acidity and a savoury/fruit sweet finish of immaculate length. Has a bit of X factor, and feels composed and self-assured, even as a young wine. Excellent."
- Gary Walsh

Tasting Notes

Wendouree, one of Australia's most revered wineries. Established in 1893 in the Clare Valley, Wendouree is renowned for its commitment to traditional winemaking techniques and low-yield, dry-grown vineyards.

A blend of Shiraz and Mataro (Mourvèdre), creating a harmonious blend that highlights the best qualities of both varieties. The Shiraz brings bold fruit flavors and spice, while the Mataro adds depth, structure, and complexity to the wine.
