94 / 100"There was no 2022 vintage produced due to frost. Anyway, 120 year old vines with 8 days of skin contact. Aged in seasoned hogsheads. What a great wine. White peach, aniseed, ripe lemon like the proper Italian ones where you can eat the skin kind of deal, peanuts, lemon verbena. It’s bright and laden with sweet lemon and grapefruit, plenty of tang and energy, peppery powdery tannin grip, saline and savoury, with a pithy finish of excellent length. Almonds in the aftertaste. Perhaps a little more frisky and nervous than the 2021, though I’d suggest time will be very kind to it. Simple pleasures done well, is something I appreciate in wine. This is perfumed and a little musky and grapey, lemon rind and apple, then it pulls all chalky and saline, tastes pretty much dry, sports a fine set of bubbles, and has a pretty long salted cracker aftertaste. In terms of quality, it’s up there with the best examples, which may or may not be damning it with faint praise, but gee it’s a lovely thing to drink. So refreshing."

Tasting Notes
Native family white grape of Molise Abruzzi dry grown here in the Barossa Valley from a single vineyard dating back to 1903
Handpicked and crushed in 500kg fermenters for 8 days, then basket-pressed to seasoned French oak for 8 months, creating texture and complexity. An energetic, complex dry style with lifted stone fruits, citrus, and grapefruit. Zesty lemon, nuts, and persistent stone fruit flavors lead to a savory saline finish. Perfect with shellfish and white meats or enjoyed on its own. Barossa's mild vintage allows flavors to slowly build with excellent acid retention, showcasing old vine Trebbiano's character.
Traditional family farming with composts, native grasses, and natural sprays on clay loam over ironstone shale soil.
Yield: 3 kg per vine, 120-year-old vines, 280m altitude.
