Tasting Notes
2023 was an exceptional vintage for our chardonnay.
Long warm days and cool nights allowed slower ripening.
This perfect ripeness was also aided by the small crop per vine combined with our mature, close planted vineyard.
These are the years for finesse and precision.
The 2023 Savaterre Chardonnay is a seductive, tightly coiled wine at this stage that will continue to evolve, mature and reveal
its multiple facets over the coming years.
It is a serious, cerebral wine of great focus and precision.
A harmonious amalgam of aromas, flavour, intensity and, length.
A beautiful wine that will continue to evolve, mature and reveal as time progresses.
My Tasting Notes - 2023 Chardonnay
Straw yellow with flecks of silver and chanteuse reflecting in the light.
Initial aromas of lime blossom, toasted hazelnut, white nectarines, pink
grapefruit, bee’s wax and sandalwood.
Prodigious from the word go.
Initial taste reveals a sophisticated, elegant, textural wine with incredible
power and length.
Classic old world structure frames the wine carrying the flavours to a long and satisfying finish.
Even as a young wine its potential is so obvious.
This wine will age beautifully for 20 years.
If consuming under 5 years please decant for at least an hour for maximum enjoyment. Will continue to improve over
the next 8 – 15 years.

Scores
98 / 100"Bright medium-light yellow colour; aromas of matchstick/gunflint reduction overlying grapefruit/citrus and biscuit nuances. In the mouth, very intense flavours of tightly focused but generously proportioned citrus/grapefruit and smoked charcuterie—impressively deep and very long-lasting. A great chardonnay of terrific refinement and formidable power. 16 Feb 2025"

"Lots of struck match that subsides given some air, white peach, citrus, almond, some spice and Japanese ginger. Tight, bright and spicy, grapefruity, lovely acid balance, mid-palate bite and intensity, though it’s a discreetly flavoured wine, and the finish is very long. There’s some almond creaminess in the mix too. It’s a finer and less flavour packed than some of the prior vintages, but gee I love its delicacy. Superb."
