94 / 100"This is Carricante from Etna, grown at 750m ASL As an aside, at a wild-arsed guess, I’d say around 30% of the samples I receive are imports (mostly Italian) these days; how things change. Italian dry whites are still a little undersung to my way of thinking. Importer: Beaune & Beyond. It’s not a flavoursome wine, as such, it’s more about the chalky and flinty feels, freshness and vibrancy – more to texture and extreme drinkability over that. You could say it’s like barely ripe pineapple and lemon water, perhaps some raw almond and green apple, but the purity and racy crunch is just so mouth-watering and delicious, it’s hard to stop guzzling it. Finish is briny, dry and pretty long. It’s a wonderful thing."

Tasting Notes
Tenuta Aglaea is a tiny estate on the North side of Etna covering only 1.8 hectares across three vineyard sites; the miniscule and excellent vineyard Bocca d’Orzo (.3 ha) in the zone of Randazzo combined with Passo Cannone (1 ha) and Santo Spirito (.5 ha) in the zone of Passopisciaro. A new vineyard has also been replanted (Passo Cannone) and will be in full production in 2019. Owned by longtime wine professional Anne-Louise Mikkelssen the estate is all about meticulaous attetion to detail and her philosophy of having the wines be a faithful expression of the terroir.
