TASTING NOTES

Lake's Folly Cabernets 1998 is a distinguished expression of Hunter Valley's terroir, showcasing the elegance and complexity that only time can reveal. This vintage captivates with a vibrant cascade of regional red and purple fruits, seamlessly intertwined with expertly integrated oak nuances.

Originating from Australia's first boutique winery, established in 1963 by the late Dr. Max Lake, this wine embodies a deep commitment to vineyard excellence. The vineyard itself, rooted in volcanic and alluvial soils near Rosehill in the lower Hunter Valley, reflects a winemaking philosophy where "the vineyard is everything."

This 1998 Cabernet blend is celebrated as one of the true delights of aged Australian wine, earning an impressive 95 points from renowned critic Jeremy Oliver. Sourced from a premium private cellar, it offers a rare opportunity to experience a classic Hunter Valley Cabernet with remarkable depth and balance.

Hunter Valley’s unique climate and historic soils contribute to the wine’s rich structure and vibrant fruit profile, making it a prized collector’s item and a sophisticated choice for discerning palates.

Healthy, full red-purple; a distinctly regional, gently earthy/savoury cast to the fruit will doubtless raise the question in the minds of some, but for me the wine is spotlessly clean. A perfectly made wine on the palate, with cassis fruit the anchor for both the texture and structure; exemplary tannin and oak handling completes the picture.
