Scores
97 / 100"From 55yo estate vines; fermented and matured 17 months in new and used French oak. The bouquet has the inimitable McLaren Vale fusion of plum and dark chocolate, the palate wonderfully light on its feet thanks to controlled alcohol and oak letting the terroir speak."

"This is good, defined by a splay of ripe grape tannins melding effortlessly with a band of oak (17 months, all Burgundian, 20% new), gentle bottle age and the reductive stamp of the house, imparting tension and, in this instance, not too much of the iodine note. Old-vine punch. Mottled blue and black berries, Seville orange, some spice and soaring Blewitt Springs violets. Plush, but taut. Measured, but generous. Very good warm-climate shiraz, as far as warm-climate shiraz goes."

"“Deep ruby-red to purple in colour. Blackberry preserve, dark chocolate and vanilla aromatics. Big and mouth-filling, black fruits are everywhere whilst a dark graphite note adds interest alongside oak spices. The tannins manage the enthusiasm well and it goes very long, leaving a rich warmth to the finish. This has a long life ahead of it.”"

"(Barry Weinman) Straight out of the bottle, this is a savoury, earthy expression of Shiraz that is restrained and shy. But with plenty of air, the latent power really starts to express. Great old-vine fruit and sympathetic wine-making combine in a polished, elegant McLaren Vale Shiraz of very high quality. Not flashy or showy, but confident and self-assured. Decant at least an hour before drinking to allow the fruit to shine."
