Scores

96 / 100

"A positive first impression with a delicately floral aroma of floral and spice steps up a gear on the palate with more intense cassis, black cherry, anise and smoky oak characters. Elegant and appealing pinot noir"
- Bob Campbell MW

95 / 100

"Light to medium ruby red with a tint of purple at the edges. Red cherry, cumin and cinnamon spices leap from the glass. Palate fills with black and red cherry, layered with tobacco leaf, anise and cumin spices, then deep down a dark slate minerality. Those complexities carry the full length of the palate and are accentuated by firm and fine tannins right to the very long finish. Offers a sense of tension to match the fruits."

Tasting Notes

Description
Masons Vineyard is grown in the Parkburn sub-region of Central Otago, known for its frost-free and north-facing slopes. This site is incredibly unique and a testament to the work of the ancient Central Otago glaciers.

Comprised mostly of the Able Clone from Pinot Noir parcels thriving on the steep north-facing "O" block, this site is renowned for its soil composition featuring a foundation of clay and paedogenic lime. Small amounts of Clone 777 & 667 from the same site are carefully added to enhance tannin structure and weight.
Winemakers comments
A rich bouquet of black cherry, plum and spice. The vein of ripe fruit continues into the mouth coating the palate along with generous and velvety tannins. Building in intensity at the back of the palate where the fruit, spice and mineral flavours linger on a wonderfully long and detailed finish.
