Scores

92 / 100

"Thierry oppines that he harvested his holdings in Santenots (planted in 1966) just a few days later than he might have liked to, and it is his only wine which shows less than pitch-perfect ripeness. The result is a rich, opulent and decidedly gourmand rendition of this sometimes firm and four-square terroir, introduced by a bouquet of ripe black cherry, cassis and graphite, framed by ripe, supple tannins. 92 / 100

"The 2015 Volnay 1er Cru Santenots was completely de-stemmed and apparently some of the berries showed some fig-like characteristics just before harvest, therefore Thierry wanted to avoid any sur-maturité. It has a perfumed and floral bouquet with a light marine/seaweed scent lending complexity. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, well-measured acidity and a gentle but insistent grip in the mouth. There is good depth here, a Santenots with substance, though it needs a tad more complexity and nuance to develop on the velvety, rich and generous finish. One to watch."
